When it comes to their professional future, many young people and their parents often find themselves helpless in the face of the wide range of training opportunities on offer. Many young people do not know how things can continue after their school years. The parents therefore try to advise their offspring. The parentum - Eltern+Schülertag Wolfsburg (parentum parents+students' Day) on Wednesday, 25 March 2020 between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. offers a good opportunity to get closer to their career choice.
At parentum, around 25 exhibitors at the Neue Schule Wolfsburg will be providing advice to interested parents and students on training and (dual) studies. The event is organised by the IfT Instiut für Talententwicklung (Institute for Talent Development) in partnership with the Wolfsburg-Helmstedt Employment Agency.
The trade fair will focus on personal discussions between visitors and exhibitors. Here questions can be asked, ideas for the future developed together and new insights gained. The aim is for every visitor to get an idea of the various professions and find something that suits their talents and interests. This creates contacts that lead to an apprenticeship or internship.
In addition to the personal interviews, lectures will be offered in which experts will give valuable tips on topics such as applications, job interviews and recruitment tests, a stay abroad or similar. In addition, the vocational schools in the region provide advice on the various school-leaving qualifications. A career course and a learning type analysis round off the offer.
Parents are still very important advisors when choosing a career," says project manager Bianca von Davier. "But their own training is usually a long time in the past and has changed so much that it is often difficult for them to advise their children. 19,000 courses of study and around 330 training occupations make it a great challenge to find what corresponds to the inclinations and talents of young people. The parentum offers parents and their children a place where they can ask their questions to the representatives of the companies in a personal conversation and that often helps a lot," says von Davier.
Around 400 women from the Wolfsburg, Gifhorn and Helmstadt regions came to the Neue Schule Wolfsburg in March 2019 to inquire about the many opportunities available after graduation.
